Apple TV+ released a trailer today for Fountain of Youth, their star-studded film helmed by director Guy Ritchie (The Man From U.N.C.L.E., 2009’s Sherlock Holmes) that looks like 2025’s attempt at a film like National Treasure and/or 1999’s The Mummy starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.
This movie seems tailor-made for me, a person who counts National Treasure and 1999’s The Mummy starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz (yes, that’s The Mummy‘s full title, I will fight you over it) as two of their favorite films. If you need more evidence to back that up, here’s Fountain of Youth’s synopsis:
Fountain of Youth follows two estranged siblings (John Krasinski and Natalie Portman) who partner on a global heist to find the mythological Fountain of Youth. They must use their knowledge of history to follow clues on an epic adventure that will change their lives… and possibly lead to immortality.
What a silly premise! I love it. Today’s trailer, however, makes me a little nervous.
The actors in the film seem great—no surprise given it stars Portman, Krasinski, and Eiza González, and also includes characters portrayed by Domhnall Gleeson, Arian Moayed, Laz Alonso, Carmen Ejogo, and the impeccable Stanley Tucci—but the trailer’s orchestral score feels Very Serious, even though it does end with a rendition of U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” (Get it?! They’re looking for something—the mythical fountain of youth!)
I still have hope that the tone is better in the actual movie, however, and I’ll still definitely be watching when Fountain of Youth premieres on Apple TV+ on May 23, 2025.
Check out the trailer below and judge for yourselves.
